Intersection Storm

Intersection Storm

Tuesday May 18th about 8:00 pm, thunder comes knocking at my door, someone’s calling my name. Or is it knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door. Grab the gear and the first real storm chase is on.

First stop, McIntosh lake  to take in the view and see where it is hitting.  Mainly the strikes are in  far East Boulder County, but I decide to take off to the  southwest to check and see if it is hitting at any of my shot I already have set up in my mind.  There are some shots that I would love to work on but the storm is not in the right places.  I stop at Pella Crossing Lakes.  There are two lakes one two the Left and one to the right and as I walk up  massive lightning bolts strike over each lake once and then not again.

So off we go toward Longmont Airport, than heading to the east.  The storm is hitting consistently to the southeast of Longmont so we head out highway 119 toward I-25. Then stop at Sandstone Ranch to see if there is a good view.  Found a road that went behind it all with a nice over look to the southeast. It is now about  8:30  lightning bolts are touching down at a nice pace making this a possibility to get a good shot. But time is running out.  So here we set up with a view of car traffic at a intersection with a view of city lights.  There were only a handful of a few good lightning burst.  This image was shot at 8:49pm.  First one of Storm Season 2010.
