Lightning Striking On The Colorado Prairie Plains

Lightning bolts striking on the Colorado prairie plains next to an old homestead house. This was an amazing but dangerous storm to photograph, large positive charge bolts hitting all over the place.

This was taken right as the sky was turning colors at sunset. This was a difficult storm for me to catch after being up all night chasing meteors for some astrophotography. But I picked myself up after thunder roars … I AM OUT THE DOOR!

Encounter Of The Third Kind Lake Storm

Nothing like hanging out lakeside with a camp fire and watching a show like this. A very bright almost full moon above with an isolated thunderstorm cell all lit up with cloud to cloud lightning striking right out of Encounter Of The Third Kind. View from Jackson Lake in Morgan County Colorado looking East. These storms went around us giving us a great side view and show as they went out in the NE direction right past our location. This is a three image in a row stack each exposure of 6 sec.

There is another composite version of this image with the moon exposed in. I have had a few people tell me they wanted to see it with the moon exposed in. So I have done it both ways. Some will like this more than the other and others will like the moon exposed in. Funny how that works.
